This study examines the architectural conservation project of Ghaith Palace (Al-Qishla), a historic landmark located in Zliten, Libya, according to architectural conservation principles. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach combined with a case study methodology, relying on the collection and critical analysis of historical records, technical documentation, and conservation reports. The findings indicate that the current conservation interventions have been highly successful in restoring the building's original architectural identity by eliminating inappropriate alterations resulting from previous interventions that were inconsistent with accepted conservation principles. The research has effectively preserved the original architectural composition, spatial organization, and the relationships among the building's constituent elements. Furthermore, the restoration materials employed demonstrate a high degree of compatibility with the original construction materials, thereby contributing to the building's authenticity and long-term preservation. The evaluation further reveals that the conservation project has achieved satisfactory levels of authenticity, integrity, and material compatibility. However, several issues remain to be addressed, including the comprehensive documentation of all conservation stages, the preservation of certain accumulated historical layers, and the identification of an appropriate adaptive reuse strategy that ensures the building's sustainable use and facilitates its continuous maintenance. The study highlights the critical role of architectural conservation in advancing the principles of sustainable architecture and emphasizes that adaptive reuse constitutes the essential subsequent phase for completing the conservation process and ensuring the long-term sustainability of Ghaith Palace.
